Real World Trade Show Marketing Tips

  1. Send out pre show direct mail pieces which relate only to the show, inviting attendees to visit your booth
  2. Design an attention getting booth.  You have 3 seconds to grab the trade show attendee’s attention so be sure you capture your marketing theme in your booth.
  3. Give away promotional items that are useful.  Be sure your company name is imprinted on your giveaway in order for your company to be remembered long after the trade show is over.
  4. Rent a lead retrieval system to capture the names of potential customers and follow up with them within one week after the show in order to maximize your participation at the show.

Do it yourself trade show marketing

Trade Shows are a great way to make new contacts and potential customers for your products and services.  Even if there is a down time at the trade show, networking with other exhibitors will expand your circle of influence and gain name recognition for your products or services.

When selecting your booth, look at the entire floor plan and decide where the best location will be for your company.  Close to the entrance, near the food or on the way to the bathrooms are excellent spots!

Hire the best graphics company you can afford.  You only have 3 seconds to grab a trade show attendee’s attention so make your graphics as bold as possible, with a simple, attention grabbing design. One attractive graphic with some verbiage and a smart marketing message is preferred over small, difficult to see images with lots of verbiage.  Be sure your potential customers can read your message from the aisle as your booth may be filled with visitors and they may not be able to get into your booth to contact you personally so your booth graphics need to tell your story.

Your marketing materials should also be within easy reach.  A literature rack is preferable over spreading out your brochures and flyers onto a table where they may get mixed up.  Assign one of your booth workers to be responsible for filling up the racks.

Set up your booth well ahead of schedule.  If you need additional items for your booth, or there is a problem with your booth setup, you will have plenty of time to remedy the problem. This will also give you plenty of time to walk the trade show floor before the attendees arrive.  Look for other trade show vendors and identify vendors who offer complimentary products and services. Introduce yourself and be sure you are wearing a badge identifying you and your company. Other trade show exhibitors can be a valuable source of referrals and for your products and services.

Be sure to utilize the press room and prepare press kits or media kits with background information on you and your company for the media who will be attending.  Be prepared to be interviewed about your products and services by the local and trade media.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain free publicity.

What’s In It For Me when hiring Marketing Xperience?

  • A Trade Show is a unique opportunity to showcase your products and services, enhance your brand awareness and image, in addition to learning what is new in your industry.
  • Getting ready to exhibit at a trade show requires a lot of time and preparation. You should plan your marketing strategy at least six months before the date of your show.  This can be stressful if you are still tending to the day to day business of operating your business, marketing your business and the normal duties which need to be done in order to run your business.
  • Working with a professional marketing company to coordinate your trade show makes sense.  A marketing company can pay attention to deadlines; reserve your booth for you; rent any booth accessories; prepare advance publicity; work with the graphic design company to design your booth and manage your pre and post show mailings.
  • While you are focusing on the day to day running of your business, a marketing company can focus on the details, large and small, which are associated with exhibiting in a trade show or convention.  There are many minute details which, if overlooked, can disrupt your focus on why you are exhibiting at the trade show.  A marketing company can coordinate such services as ordering badges for booth workers through the correct channels, reserving a forklift to move heavy equipment, ordering extra chairs for booth visitors, etc.  Some of the small details may be overlooked if you are not familiar with the intricacies which are involved in trade show set up.
  • Over the past 15 years we have set up and coordinated many trade shows for our customers.  We are experts at knowing what can go wrong and how we can anticipate some of the problems our customers may face before arriving on the trade show floor.  We make sure that we have covered every detail in order to help our customers focus on why they are at the trade show to begin with and not have to concentrate on misplaced promotional product giveaways, or tri fold brochures which may not have made their way to the convention floor.  However, should you decide to coordinate your own participation in a trade show, we are also able to assist you with booth graphics, promotional product giveaways and handouts while you focus on booth contents and set up. Our flexibility allows you to relax and enjoy the trade show!
